Top 10 Online Real Estate Sites
When you are looking for a new home or even to sell an existing one it’s good to know which online real estate sites really drive the most traffic. We did some research using Alexa and several other tools to help us find all the major players in online real estate (as it relates to the United States). There is a mix of sites that are traditional brokers all the way to aggregators that work with multiple brokers. Most of these sites will be familiar to you but knowing the current industry trends and requirements makes the whole process of buying and selling real estate a lot easier. The rules do keep changing at a rapid pace.
- Zillow.com – They offer a tremendous amount of information on each listing. They show you the estimated value of each property and relate that price to the housing trends in the local area. They also offer a satellite view in addition to the standard home pictures. In addition they provide mortgage payment details to give you an idea how much each property is going to cost on a monthly basis with multiple financing options.
- Trulia.com – Another great site for getting comparative property valuations so you know what the true value of each property may be. They also provide information about schools and proximity of each home to local schools. It’s a wealth of information about each home and the surrounding area.
- ZipRealty.com – Zip Realty offers a great site with tons of useful resources for buyers. The big difference with Zip Realty is that their real estate agents are employees of the company and they have a different incentive for helping people find a home versus a traditional real estate agent and brokerage firm. Other than that they have great search capabilities and a solid platform that you can trust to help you find all of the available homes in the area in your price range.
- Realtor.com – They offer the traditional MLS listings plus a great section on moving tips and home & garden tips. It’s sponsored by the National Association of Realtors and has a focus on getting buyers and sellers to fully understand the processes around buying and selling real estate.
- Remax.com – Remax is a name that most people have heard of and is well known as a traditional real estate broker. They offer the ability to search the MLS listings and then a quick and convenient way to find an agent in your area that can speed up the process of finding exactly what you are looking for in your next home.
- Century21.com – They offer a very different look from the other sites in the list really focusing on their black and gold theme. One of the key features of this site is the thought that they put into their online search form. It’s intuitive and one of the best if not the best in the industry.
- 99acres.com – This site is mostly popular due to its global appeal. It really makes it easy to find homes to buy or rent in a wide range of countries, resort locations, and domestically. It’s light, simple and a pure joy to use. You can also post your requirements in a site and have landlords/owners contact you to setup appointements.
- coldwellbanker.com – Another traditional real estate brokerage and giant in the industry. They offer a home search tool called BlueScape that allows you to find a home based on images and your moods. It’s a really interesting concept and if you are in the market, one that you really need to try out as a different way to discover all of your options.
- MLSListings.com – Many websites just repeat the MLS listings and so it makes sense that MLSListings.com would be a very popular website. It was formed by the merger of 2 large MLS’s and blossomed from there to a great site for finding a home with really current information.
- Hawaii Life Real Estate Services – The 2009 Web Award winner for best real estate website. http://www.webaward.org/winner.asp?eid=13892. There isn’t much more that needs to be said about this site but unless you want to be lured to Hawaii you may want to stay away from its temptations as it is a really beautiful site completely appropriate for a beautiful location like Hawaii.
Regardless as to whether you are a buyer or a seller or just someone that likes to browse around on real estate sites (yes there are several of us), we hope you will like all of these resources and that if you haven’t done so, you’ll give them a try the next time you need one of them.
